At first leopards, zdas, and giraffes all lived on the Highveld plateau of South Africa.
It was always difficult for prey animals like the zebra and giraffe to spot the leopard when he came to hunt them because the leopard blended
into the sandy-yellow Highveld grass. Finally, the zebra, girafes, and other animals got fed up with being hunted and decided to run away from
the leopard to the green forest.
The forest was full of tall trees that created shadows of various shapes.
Living in this new combination of sunlight and shadows, the giraffe and zebra developed blotches and stripes on their skin. After many days, the
leopard that still lived in the Highveld got tired of looking for his prey.
So he also decided to travel to the forest with his hunting friend, an Ethiopian man. When the leopard got there, he discovered that his yellow
skin made him stand out in the dark forrest, causing all his prey to run away before he could attack.
So, with the of his Ethiopian friend, the leopard put black spots on his skin so that he could easily blend into the shadows of the forest.
